Day 1 – Venice

Start Italy at your own pace. It’s the first day of this tour of Italy. Today we imagine you are a bit tired from the trip but eager to get started. Welcome to Venice! This city had the honor of being one of the most powerful, rich and populated cities for many centuries, dominating the Mediterranean and the eastern trade routes.

You will fall in love with this city, which could well be a museum of extraordinary dimensions. Venice is one of the most photographed places in the world, so get your camera ready because bridges, Vaporettos and Gondolas are waiting to be immortalized. Did you know that…

• The last bridge built in Venice was designed by a Spanish architect: Calatrava.
• From time to time in Venice there is a phenomenon called “Acqua Alta“. It causes a sharp rise in the water level in the lagoon of Venice, which usually lasts about 3 – 4 hours. Depending on the intensity with which it occurs, it can flood, with half a meter of water, most of the historic center.

Day 2 – Venice

¡Hay tanto que ver por Venecia! Así que prepárate, luego de un rico desayuno sal a disfrutar del arte con influencia bizantina que caracteriza la basílica de San Marco, admira el canal grande desde el puente de Rialto pero si de verdad quieres disfrutar de esta ciudad piérdete por sus callejuelas y sorpréndete al doblar cada esquina.

Day 3 – Venice – Verona – Milan

Third day of Italy at your own pace. After a delicious breakfast you will depart for Milan. But first you will make a stop in Verona. The city of love. In case you didn’t know, this is where the story of Romeo and Juliet took place. We will have several hours to discover this beautiful city.

Visit Piazza Bra or Piazza Bra, they say it is the largest in Italy, but it is up to you to find out if this is true or not. It has everything! Even a Roman amphitheater. Surrounding this square are several important buildings such as: Palazzo Barbieri which is currently the seat of the Town Hall, the Portales della Bra, are two Renaissance arches that you pass through as you enter the square, the Listone is a wide sidewalk paved in pink marble, full of restaurants and bars.

After wandering the small streets of Verona, you will depart for Milan… Are you ready? There is still so much to explore on this Italy on your own terms tour.

Did you know that…

• Juliet’s house is visited annually by a multitude of tourists from all over the world. Visitors leave cards with messages of love, which fill the walls and corridors of the house. There are so many cards that the Town Hall has to remove them twice a year, on the eve of St. Valentine’s Day and on September 17, Juliet’s birthday.

Day 4 – Milan

Welcome to Milano! So you will have the whole day in this city to explore it to your heart’s content in this tour of Italy. We will provide you with information about the places you must visit. To start with, visit the Milan Cathedral and the Duomo Square. It is one of the most beautiful in the world. It is a Gothic cathedral that began to be built in the late fourteenth century and took five centuries to be completed.

It passes by the Santa Maria delle Grazie Church. It is about a 20-minute walk from Piazza del Duomo. Do you know what is inside this church? Nothing more and nothing less than one of the masterpieces of art history: “The Last Supper” by Da Vinci.

And what better way to end the first day of this tour than with a delicious pizza. We recommend you to stop by Pizzeria Da Zero, it is said that here you can eat the best pizza in Milan… Is it true? You just have to go and try it. The secret is that they are prepared with typical products of the Campania region.

Did you know that…

•  Da Vinci finished painting “The Last Supper” between 1495 and 1498. It took him 4 years to complete this work and he used a technique of tempera and oil on plaster. The size of the painting is 8.8 meters wide and 4.6 meters high.

Day 5 – Milan – Bologna – Pisa

After breakfast you will depart for Pisa, but before arriving you will make a stop in Bologna. You will have a couple of hours to discover this city so take note of the places you should visit: Piazza Maggiore and the fountain of Neptune, the Basilica of San Petronio, which is the fifth largest church in the world. You can enter for free, but if you want to go up to the terrace and see the city from above it costs 3€.

You will arrive in Pisa in the evening to eat a delicious pizza in the city. Do you want a night walk? I recommend you to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa at night. There are not so many people and you can enjoy it better.

Did you know that…

Bologna is known as: la dotta, la rossa and la grossa (the cultured, the red and the fat):

• The cultured because it is the seat of one of the oldest universities in Europe.
• The Red because of the color of the houses and roofs.
• The fat one for its delicious gastronomy

Day 6 – Pisa – Cinque Terre – Pisa

Today you are in Pisa, the small university town, the ancient sea power of the Middle Ages to admire the most famous tower in the world, which with its inclination has been surprising everyone for 1,000 years: the Tower of Pisa. After a cultural day in the city of Pisa, today it’s time to board the train to reach a unique coast in the world: Cinque Terre.

After an hour and a bit by train you will arrive in La Spezia, from where you can access by another train to the natural park of Cinque Terre. This was named a World Heritage Site by Unesco, and includes among other things 5 small villages, each one different, but all spectacular. After enjoying the sunset you will get back on the train to Pisa, to rest after a great day.

If you still have energy left I recommend you to go out and discover the night world of this city. Remember that Pisa is a university city, with many exchange and Erasmus students.

Day 7 – Pisa – Florence

“Buongiorno Principessa” said Benigni, an actor from Florence, in the movie “Life is Beautiful“.

Did you sleep well? Today it’s time to explore a new part of La Bella Toscana, nothing more and nothing less: Florence. You will take a train from Pisa to reach the cradle of the Renaissance. Today you can visit many works of art of these authors in the Uffizi museum, or if you do not feel like being in a museum, you can stroll through the hills of Florence. From there you can see the mythical dome of Brunelleschi, which dominates the whole city.

You can not leave here without visiting the Cathedral of Santa Maria in Fiore and climb the famous dome, it has 436 steps. You will have spectacular views of the city. Walk along the Ponte Vecchio and the views of the Arno River. Get lost in all the little streets of the city, everything looks like a postcard. A mandatory stop is to go to see the sunset at Piazzale Michelangelo, according to many the most beautiful sunset they have ever seen in their lives.

Day 8 – Florence – Naples

Up and at ’em travelers! One more day on the Italy A tu Aire tour. Today we wake up in Florence and it’s time to head south to Naples. Are you ready? Prepare some snacks because you have a long way to go. Choose a window so you can see all of Italy on the way.

When you get to the city you can see how beautiful it is, but be careful not to get hit by a motorcycle. Places to visit while you are here:

Piazza del Plebiscito, located in front of the Royal Palace, undoubtedly one of the symbols of Naples. The Galleria Umberto I: Similar to the Galleria in Milan. It is full of stores and bars. But if you are looking for the real and authentic Naples get lost in Spaccanapoli (Naples breaker). It is an area that divides the city between north and south. Lose yourself in its little streets where you will see the daily life of a Neapolitan, artists, artisans, vendors, motorcycles and more motorcycles, children and adults playing soccer.

Day 9 – Naples

Second day in Naples on this Complete Italy tour. Today you have more time to visit the Castel dell’Ovo. The entrance is free and you can go up to the Terraza dei Cannoni, where you will have a wonderful view of the city, the sea, the harbor and the Vesuvius. Another to visit is the Castel Nuovo, one of the symbols of the city. The entrance fee is 6€. Walk along Via San Gregorio Armeno, famous for its Christmas markets and stalls selling the iconic statuettes.

And please, eat! Naples has the best pizza in the world. No matter the place, it is impossible to find a bad one. The authentic Neapolitan pizza is the Margherita: tomato, mozzarella, oil and basil in honor of Queen Margherita and the Italian flag. Another thing you must try is the mozzarella di bufala, taralli, struffoli and of course the limoncello di Sorrento. MMM!

Did you bring your bathing suit? Because if you prefer, while you are here, you can visit the Amalfi Coast and take a boat to Capri and spend a day at sea. This is up to you.

Day 10 – Naples – Rome

The end of Italy is approaching. Today you will wake up in Naples with a few extra kilos but well enjoyed and you will leave for Rome. The capital of Italy and ancient “Caput Mundi” awaits you with its thousands of years of history. There are plenty of reasons to visit Rome, be captivated by the city and wish to return to it, such as the gastronomy and its lively atmosphere are some of them.

• In St. Peter’s Cathedral in Rome, you can find stars on the marble pavement, right in the middle of an aisle that runs along the central nave. What they represent are the length of various Catholic temples in the world.
• There is the Bocca Della Veritá, in Sta. Maria in Cosmedin, the most famous manhole in the world. According to legend, whoever puts his hand in the mouth and tells a lie, it will bite him.

Day 11 – Rome

Rome is known as the “Eternal City” and everything has its explanation. In this city time seems to have stopped centuries ago due to the multitude of monuments and remains of imposing buildings. This makes strolling through its streets become a journey back in time, to the era of maximum splendor of the capital. During our first afternoon in the city we will visit some of the countless monuments and corners that we can not miss. Will you throw your coin in the Trevi Fountain?

If you want you can visit the Vatican, the smallest country in the world. It will take you a couple of hours to walk around. So organize your day well to make the most of this beautiful and incredible city that has so much to offer you.

Day 12 – Rome

And so we come to the end of Italia a Tu Aire. Today is your last day, you have to say goodbye to Rome, followed by Hasta Pronto!
