Let’s start by getting you involved in everything you can see in this beautiful city. From the Colosseum to the Trevi Fountain, through the atmospheric Piazza di Spagna to the elegant Piazza Navona. A relaxed stroll through the Villa Borghese Gardens can be topped off with a visit to St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and the hidden empire of its independent country, Vatican City.
Where to live
The average rent of a room is between €350-400. In Rome there are lots of universities and students– It’s actually a young city. Erasmus at Roma Tre (a university in the city) is very well organised, and depending on a family’s economic situation, each student is given a certain amount of money so that they can live more comfortably. However, this is becoming less common.
To find cheap accommodation we recommend that you use Facebook pages and groups created by students themselves. Flat sharing is the best option, and you’ll also gain some serious language skills living with Italian or erasmus students of all different nationalities.
Where to go out
A stop-off point for students and one of the main places to go out is the neighbourhood of San Lorenzo, which has the largest concentration of bars and pubs. It is always full of young people of all nationalities and one of the areas where lots of people rent apartments.
Another more central area is the neighbourhood of Trastevere, where there are also plenty of bars, pubs and squares to hang out in at night. The Piazza di Spagna is another meeting place where students love to drink on the steps, especially when the sun is shining.
There are also several Erasmus groups, such as ESN, that organize almost daily parties in various places.
Food!!
Italian food, like the rest of the Mediterranean, has some exquisite dishes. The most important thing is, undoubtedly, the pasta: pizza, macaroni, spaghetti, ravioli, tagliatteli, lasagna, caneloni … the trattorias in Italy are unmissable.
Around Trastevere there’s great quality pizzerias at cheap prices for students: Carlo Menta is one of the favourites. It’s always buzzing with good food at affordable prices. For example, they have an all-inclusive menu for € 10.
PizzaRe is a restaurant where we find an abundance of pizzas and pastas. There is one in the Piazza del Poppolo and another in the Campo de’ Fiori. Here you’ll find pizzas ranging from €7 to €9.
It doesn´t get better than true authentic Italian food in Rome!
