A trip to Rome – the city where everything related to love – is just a stone’s throw away. It’s known as the most romantic city in Europe, and its architecture and wonderful landscapes speak for themselves. Musical, charming, intimate… Rome is ready for you to fall in love with her. Some of the most romantic spots in Rome are here: oman The main and most essential stop on the Roman tour of love. The Trevi fountain is a place you have to visit with or without a partner, but is definitely not a secret of Rome. The legend states that whoever throws a coin over their shoulder and sees it enter the water, will surely return to the city. And there are many reasons to wish for this. Whether it’s during the daytime, or when it’s warmly lit at night, the fountain is always surrounded by people, but it surely is one of the most romantic spots in Rome. Something which usually detracts from the moment of the visit is the overwhelming amount of people trying to sell roses in the area, but it’s easy enough to ignore them and continue enjoying this special place. Without a doubt, the Villa Borghese gardens are the green heart of Rome. In this corner of Rome, you can escape the traffic, noise and people. They cover such a large area that you could lose yourself on its paths without bumping into anyone else. It’s easy to visit the gardens as they are very close to the centre and have many entrances, the main one being in Piazzale Flaminio. A must when you visit Rome. Located on the Aventine hill, from this garden you can take in one of the most romantic views of the city. It’s a relaxing experience after a tiring day of exploring, watching dusk fall over the city from this viewpoint. Its beauty and views make this garden highly recommendable. To get there, take the metro B: Circo Massimo. One of the truly romantic spots in Rome. This is Rome’s most authentic neighbourhood. You can find Trastevere on the other side of the Tiber, the river that runs through the city, with its tiny medieval streets which have survived both the passage of time and the thousands of tourists which pass through on a daily basis. Its fame is truly deserved. The impressive churches, restaurants and trattorias that can be found here are also to blame for its popularity. They say it’s the place to discover the best of what Rome has to offer. I perhaps don’t fully agree with this (as you can eat tremendously well anywhere in the city), but it’s undeniable that everyone who steps foot in Trastevere is completely enchanted. Its authenticity shines through in every corner. Who wouldn’t fall in love with a setting like this? How could we forget? It’s Rome’s most recognisable monument. Moreover, it has been a source of inspiration for many writers and filmmakers that, throughout its history, have seen it as an especially symbolic place. The Colosseum is the main symbol of Rome, and is almost 2000 years old. Being in this place will make your imagination take flight and go back in time, attempting to discover what the Roman Empire’s ancient society used to be like. The Colosseum was and is one of the major hubs of the empire and city life. They say Rome has the best ice cream in the world. A stroll with an ice cream can awaken your senses and rouse the most hidden pleasures to make you fall in love. In fact, eating chocolate releases the same endorphins as when you fall in love. What more could you want? If you have the chance to take a stroll around the Gianicolo before midday, you will be able to admire one of the most romantic views in Rome. If you stay until midday, you will hear the cannon fire that rumbles from there every day. The Gianicolo as a whole is one of Rome’s many charming places where you can see the city at your feet. Located next to the northern gate of the city, the Piazza del Popolo is one of Rome’s most popular squares. You will find the square, which in imperial times marked the entrance of the city, at the start of the Via Flaminia. In the square you can also find the Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria in Montesanto churches, two seemingly twin temples with a few hidden differences. You can get the best views of the square from the Pincian gardens by climbing the eastern steps. Piazza Navona is Rome’s quintessential baroque square. It’s located at the heart of the medieval city, surrounded by narrow alleyways where you can enjoy having a wonder – a little secret of Rome. Piazza Navona’s main attraction is the famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers), designed by Bernini, along with the Sant’Agnese in Agone church, designed by Borromini. The fountain, whose formidable figures represent the main rivers of the four continents (as they were then known), props up an Egyptian obelisk which stands tall in the middle of the square, as it used to in the Roman circuses. The square, bustling with energy due to the flow of tourists and street artists that usually settle there, has a change of atmosphere around Christmas time, with the mobile stalls of the Befana Market.
