1.Because there is nothing holding you back.
No job, children, friends that you can lose, or an opportunity of a lifetime. Travel while you’re young! The only real opportunity you will get is the experience of travelling. You can decide to live away from home, or even apply for study grants or internships abroad. What could be more exciting?
2. Because your body allows it.
One of the advantages of being young, as your grandma would say: “youth is a divine treasure”. Your metabolism is at its best right now: being able to eat, drink and not digest everything that goes into your stomach. Or being able to walk for hours, not get much sleep and still be alright, etc. etc. So travel while you’re young!!
3. It will shape your personality.
You will have to settle by yourself and this will contribute to your personal growth. You will learn how to be yourself in any situation if you travel while you’re young. You will surprise your parents with the maturity you have earned and they won’t take it very well that you want to ‘fly the nest’ so quickly. Although when you do, you can probably deal with it in a much more mature way than those who have ever moved house before.
4. You will get to know new cultures.
Wherever you go there will be an infinite amount of experiences waiting for you. People, ways of life, places… who knows, maybe even the love of your life. If you travel while you’re young it gives you the opportunity to meet incredible new people and cultures.
5. You will party in places you would never imagine if you travel while you’re young.
And you will be able to withstand much more than you would if you were older, and you’d still manage to do tourist activities the day after. You will get to know the nightlife of many places and you will realise that the music never changes… downsides to capitalist globalisation. Whether it be celebrating NYE in Prague, or visiting an international music festival – enjoy them whilst you are young!
6. Cheap travel.
When you grow up you won’t want to stay in places where a bed for the night costs you two euros, and you won’t want to go on super long journeys just to save money on transport. You will be a scrounger that counts their pennies just to buy a sandwich, but thanks to this you’ll be able to travel much more!
7. You’ll get discounts.
Because you’re a young student, in most places (especially cultural activities) they usually have huge discounts. Something to bear in mind… You can sign up for an international student discount card here..
8. It will be good for your CV.
To live abroad will always improve the way others see you and it will help your CV say much more about you than might actually be true. Or do you know as many languages as places you have visited? If you travel while you’re young, it will enhance your CV massively – as international experience is vital nowadays!
9. It will give you an amazing sense of freedom.
Given that you’re young, you’ve never experienced the ability to travel around by yourself, and you will feel truly free.
10. You will want to do it again.
Whether it be university travel, travel with friends or solo travel – make sure that you travel whilst you’re young!!
