Money-saving travel tips
Nowadays, more than ever, it’s harder than ever to save money when you travel. There are so many things to see that it’s almost impossible to choose between them and we want to do them all! But how can you save money and travel at the same time? Well, read this guide to money saving tips and I swear you’ll save at least a little money!
Money-saving travel tips
1. Use the SkyScanner website in ‘incognito mode’.
I’m sure you already know this site and it has saved you when you need a last minute flight and you’re in a panic. This website is a very useful tool for finding cheap flights to any city in the world.
But did you know? If you browse online in incognito mode, you can lower the price of flights because there are no cookies when you browse incognito, as prices can go down. I bet you didn’t know that!

2. Cook your own food or find authentic restaurants
For me, one of the most important things during a trip is the food. I love to try different types of food, visit typical restaurants and enjoy the local cuisine. I understand that you love food too!!!

However, how can you enjoy yourself without breaking the bank? My top tip is to find local restaurants or cafes that are not so touristy.
Sometimes touristy restaurants can be a rip-off and the food disappoints. You need to find restaurants full of locals because the food is usually cheaper and tastier there. Or you can eat your own food like sandwiches or something like that for lunch.

3. Look for free or reduced attractions
Every city has a lot of tourist attractions, from museums and parks to stadiums and monuments and you’re sure to want to see them all. But these attractions can cost a lot!
A great money-saving tip is to look for free attractions or visit them when reduced admission is available. For example, in Madrid you can walk around Retiro or the Temple of Debod for free and during the last hours of the day, on Sundays the entrance to the Prado Museum is totally free.

Back in my home in London, you can visit the V&A and Tate Modern galleries for free every day, and there are others where admission is reduced for students. Do a bit of research and you can find many attractions like this all over Europe!
4. Walk, instead of taking taxis within cities
Want to save the planet and save money at the same time? Then walk, walk and walk again! Although it’s tempting to take a taxi when your feet hurt, trust me, if you walk you will save a lot of money and protect the planet.

What’s more, when you walk it’s much easier to discover hidden places and sights you’ve never heard of in any guidebook.

5. Use a debit card with no fees
Some debit cards charge you when you take money out and these transactions can really wreck your budget. So the solution is to use debit cards that don’t charge these sneaky fees.
Last tip to save money, when paying by debit card, always choose the option to pay in local currency. Here is a list of the top 3 fee-free debit cards that are perfect for travelling!
