Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM)

This university is also the third biggest campus uni in Europe, only falling behind the University of Rome La Sapienza and the University of Vienna.

It is home to the biggest university library in Spain and what’s more this is also the second biggest public library in all of Spain, of course, being piped to the post by the National Library of Madrid, which houses almost 3,000,000 books.

Complutense is also the largest in terms of size, it has a campus in the centre of Madrid, another in Somosaguas and even more in different locations.

Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM)

La Universidad Autónoma de Madrid is another very well know university in the capital of Spain. It’s main campus is located in Cantoblano, on the outskirts of Madrid, but don’t let this put you off, its really easy to get to on the bus or train. It has many mobility agreements with countries around the world, especially European institutions, so it is another of the most demanded options by international students who come to Madrid. Especially those studying medicine, biology, Nursing, physics and law.

Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC)

This is the newest university in Madrid. It main attraction is the fact it offers a wide range of joint donors degrees (60% of the degree is based on one subject and the remaining 40% on another). However above all else, this university is known for the range of social science degrees it offers. It receives many Erasmus + and Erasmus Munde students, each year an average of 46,000. It is composed of various campuses in the following areas: Vicálvaro, Alcorcón, Móstoles and Fuenlabrada… all located on the outskirts of Madrid, but once again are all easily accesible via Renfe, bus or metro. It also has various offices in the centre of the city, on calle Quintana and in the plaza Manuel Becerra.

Universidad Carlos III (UC3M)

Carlos III University has been growing and developing since 1989. It is currently competing to win first place as the best public university in Madrid. It is currently promoting, like the other universities in Madrid, exchange programs, both European and international. It has various campuses which are located in Getafe, Colmenarejo, Leganés… It has many great degrees on offer, as well as masters, doctorates and online training courses.

Universidad de Alcalá de Henares (UAH)

One can presume that this is the oldest university university in the community of Madrid, as it was founded in 1499. Its many years of history have allowed this university to develop and grow exponentially, for example it has gained new campuses in locations such as Guadalajara, very close to the centre of Madrid. The beautiful architecture of all of the buildings and the effort made to conserve them as well as possible have gained this university the title of a UNESCO world heritage university from 1998. It currently offers a total of 38 degrees, in a range of different academic fields.

This university is different from the others. It specialises, par excellence, in engineering and architecture.
